2 × 20 TB in RAID 0: the numbers
| Usable space | 40 TB (36.4 TB in Windows) |
|---|---|
| Raw space | 40 TB |
| Used for protection | Nothing |
| Efficiency | 100% |
| Drives that can fail | None |
Rebuild
RAID 0 cannot rebuild. A failed drive means restoring all 40 TB from a backup. With a typical 1.5% annual failure rate per drive, the chance that one of the 2 drives fails within a year is 3%, and within three years 8.7%.
Our take
Use this only for data you can copy or download again: scratch space, caches, a game library. With two drives, RAID 1 gives 20 TB and survives a failed drive.
